Why 304 stainless steel under a garden table

304 stainless steel, also called 18/8, is naturally corrosion resistant. There is no coating that can be damaged: the brushed surface is the metal itself.

Quick guide

  • You like silver and brushed metal: stainless steel.
  • You want the frame in a colour, such as anthracite or black: steel with outdoor primer.
  • Outdoors they are equally suitable, so choose on looks and on what matches your garden chairs.
  • Finish: brushed as standard. Stainless steel can optionally be powder coated in a RAL colour.
  • Welded in Maasbree: the frame is made to measure in our workshop in Maasbree, the Netherlands.
  • The honest drawback: fingerprints show, although they are easy to remove.

Stainless steel or steel: the difference is the look

Steel with outdoor primer and stainless steel are equally suitable outdoors. For outdoor use the steel frame gets an extra primer layer under the powder coat, and it comes in 10 standard colours. Stainless steel stays brushed silver.

So your choice depends on your patio. Brushed stainless steel suits light paving and a top with a stone or marble look; a black or anthracite frame makes the table look calmer.

Which top on a stainless steel frame?

  • Ceramic: 29 colours, 12 or 20 mm thick, frost and UV resistant. Heavy and sensitive to a hard knock on the edge.
  • Granite: four types, 30 mm thick, up to 2400 × 1000 mm. Seal after delivery and every two to three years after that.

A round top comes in ceramic. Rectangular, oval, Danish oval and a rectangle with semicircular ends come in both ceramic and granite.

Stainless steel frame models

This category includes the stainless steel frames Amsterdam, Brussel, Dublin, Helsinki, Riga 80x40, Riga 80x80 and Sydney. Riga 80x40 and Riga 80x80 differ in the size of the box section: 80 × 40 mm looks slimmer, 80 × 80 mm sturdier. You see each model best in the 3D configurator, under your own top.

What size stainless steel garden table?

Allow 700 to 750 mm of table edge per person and at least 800 mm of free space around it. Three chairs along one long side need 2100 to 2250 mm. Standard table height is 760 mm.

Cleaning a stainless steel garden table

  • Frame: a damp cloth, in the direction of the brushing. No scouring pads or products containing chlorine.
  • Ceramic top: a damp cloth; the top absorbs nothing.
  • Granite top: a pH-neutral cleaner, no vinegar or lemon, and a trivet under a hot pan.

Frequently asked questions

Does a stainless steel garden table rust?
No. 304 stainless steel (18/8) is naturally corrosion resistant and needs no coating. Clean the frame with a damp cloth in the direction of the brushing, without chlorine-based products.
What is the difference between a stainless steel and a steel garden table?
The look. Steel with outdoor primer and stainless steel are equally suitable outdoors. Stainless steel is brushed silver; steel comes in 10 standard colours, with a powder coat that a heavy impact could in theory damage.
Is stainless steel the same as inox?
Yes. Inox is the French and Belgian name for stainless steel. The frames are made of 304 stainless steel, also known as 18/8.
Which tops fit a stainless steel frame?
Ceramic in 29 colours, 12 or 20 mm thick, and granite in four types, 30 mm thick. A round top comes in ceramic.
Can a stainless steel frame be coloured?
Yes. Stainless steel is brushed as standard, but can optionally be powder coated in a RAL colour. If colour is what you are after, look at a steel frame too.
