Which dining table suits you?

A made-to-measure dining table comes together in four steps: material, shape, size and base. The material matters most, so start there.

Quick guide

  • You eat at the table with children every day, or want to put a pan down on the top: choose ceramic.
  • You want warmth and visible grain, and the table may show signs of use: choose oak or walnut.
  • You want natural stone with its own pattern: choose granite.
  • The table also has to stand outside: choose ceramic.

Material: ceramic, oak, walnut or granite

Each material has a strong point and a limitation. Both are part of the choice.

Ceramic dining table

  • Resistant to heat, scratches and stains: ceramic is sintered at extremely high temperature and is non-porous.
  • UV-resistant and frost-resistant, so suitable indoors and outdoors.
  • 29 colours, top of 12 mm or 20 mm.
  • Note: ceramic is heavy and sensitive to hard point impact on the edge.

Oak dining table

  • 40 mm solid European oak, honey to golden brown with a pronounced open grain. No two tops are the same.
  • Stained in the colour you choose and finished with two coats of clear matt lacquer, or left untreated if you want to finish the top yourself.
  • Gains a deeper, warmer colour over the years.
  • Note: oak is not suitable for outdoors.

Walnut dining table

  • 40 mm solid walnut, deep chocolate brown with purple undertones. Lighter in weight than oak and dimensionally stable.
  • Knots are always filled in black.
  • Note: in long periods of direct sunlight walnut can turn slightly lighter; UV blockers in the lacquer limit this. Not suitable for outdoors.

Granite dining table

  • 30 mm volcanic natural stone, one of the hardest materials. Every top has its own pattern.
  • Four varieties, polished (gloss) or honed (matt).
  • Note: seal granite on arrival and then every two to three years. A hot pan can crack it through thermal shock, so use a trivet.

Shape: round, oval, Danish oval or rectangular

The shape decides how many people fit and how the table sits in the room.

  • Rectangular: the most seats per metre; works well along a wall or in a long room.
  • Round: everyone faces each other; handy for four to six people and in a square room.
  • Oval: the seating of a long table without corners; easy to walk around in a narrower room.
  • Danish oval: straight long sides with rounded ends; the end seats are full places.
  • Semicircle ends: straight long sides with half-round ends.

What size dining table do you need?

Allow 700 to 750 mm of table edge per person and at least 800 mm of free space around the table. The standard table height is 760 mm.

For a rectangular or Danish oval table, with one seat at each end, that gives:

  • 1600 mm long: 6 people, 4 of them along the sides.
  • 2000 mm long: 6 people, with room to spare.
  • 2400 mm long: 8 people.
  • 3000 mm long: 10 people.

Measure your room and subtract 800 mm on each side; what remains is the largest table that fits. The maximum size depends on the material: oak up to 3000 × 1200 mm, walnut up to 2600 × 1200 mm, granite up to 2400 × 1000 mm.

Base: steel or stainless steel

You choose between steel and stainless steel on looks. Outdoors, steel with outdoor primer and stainless steel are equally suitable.

  • Steel: welded in our workshop in Maasbree and powder-coated with a fine texture, 3 to 5 times thicker than wet paint. Available in 10 standard colours. Powder coating is a layer of lacquer that can be damaged by a heavy impact.
  • Stainless steel: grade 304 (18/8), naturally corrosion-resistant, brushed as standard; optionally powder-coated in a RAL colour. Fingerprints show but are easy to wipe off.

All models are in steel table bases and stainless steel table bases. Need chairs too? See the dining sets.

Frequently asked questions

What does a made-to-measure dining table cost?
That depends on material, size and base. In the 3D configurator you see the price with every choice, so you know in advance what your table costs.
What size dining table do I need for 8 people?
A rectangular or Danish oval table of 2400 mm, with three seats on each long side and one at each end. That is based on 700 to 750 mm per person. Keep at least 800 mm of free space around it.
Which material is best for a dining table?
That depends on how you use the table. Ceramic handles heat, scratches and stains and can also stand outside, but it is heavy. Oak and walnut bring warmth and grain, for indoors only. Granite is natural stone that needs sealing from time to time.
What is the difference between a steel and a stainless steel base?
The look. Steel is welded in Maasbree and powder-coated in one of 10 standard colours. Grade 304 stainless steel is brushed and naturally corrosion-resistant. Outdoors, steel with outdoor primer and stainless steel are equally suitable.
What is the delivery time?
Delivery within 4 weeks, or at a lower rate within 8 weeks. Collection from Maasbree is also possible.
Can I see the materials before ordering?
Yes. Material samples are ordered per piece and refunded when you return them. In the showroom in Maasbree, also open on Saturdays, you can see the materials side by side.
