An armchair is more than an extra seat. It is the place in the living room where you retreat to read, drink a cup of coffee or simply do nothing. The right armchair depends on how you sit, how much space you have and what look you are after. Below you can read what to look for.

Swivel armchairs

A swivel armchair sits on a central pivot and can rotate 360 degrees. This is convenient in a living room where you alternate between watching television, having a conversation or looking out of the window. You do not need to move the chair to change direction.

The swivel mechanism is hidden in the base and operates silently. The armchair rotates smoothly and stays stable, even when you sit sideways. In the showroom in Maasbree you can test the swivel mechanism yourself.

A swivel armchair is particularly suited for open living rooms where the sofa is not against a wall. The armchair then stands as a freestanding piece of furniture and can be directed to any point in the room.

Fixed armchairs

A fixed armchair stands on legs or a fixed base and has a fixed direction. The advantage is stability: the armchair stands firmly and does not shift when you sit down or stand up. Fixed armchairs often have a lower seat height and deeper seat, allowing you to recline further.

Fixed models fit well in a classic arrangement: two armchairs opposite the sofa, with a coffee table in between.

Poufs as versatile accent pieces

A pouf is the most flexible seating in the collection. Use it as an extra seat for visitors, as a footrest by the sofa or as a standalone element in a reading corner. Due to its low weight, a pouf is easy to move from one spot to another.

A pouf combines well with an armchair: place the pouf in front as a footrest for extra relaxation. With a modular sofa, a pouf functions as an extension of the seating without having to purchase a fixed element.

Choosing upholstery: fabric or leather

In the showroom, swatches of all available fabrics and leather types per model are on hand. The difference in texture and colour is difficult to assess on a screen. Feel free to take swatches home to compare with your sofa and other furniture.

What to look for when choosing an armchair

Seat height. The seat height determines how easily you get in and out of the chair. A higher seat (around 45 cm) is better for taller people and those who have difficulty standing up. A lower seat (around 40 cm) gives a more relaxed seating position.

Seat width. A wider seat offers more room to sit comfortably, with legs drawn up or at an angle. Those who like to sit broadly should choose an armchair with a seat width of 55 cm or more.

Armrests. Wide, low armrests invite you to rest an arm or set down a book. Narrow or absent armrests make the chair visually lighter and take up less space.

Back support. A high back provides support for head and neck, pleasant for longer periods of reading or watching television. A low back gives a more open, modern silhouette that better suits smaller spaces.

Combining an armchair with your living room

An armchair rarely stands alone. The combination with the sofa, coffee table and other furniture determines whether the whole works. The armchair does not need to be in the same fabric or colour as the sofa. A deliberate contrast gives the living room more depth. Just ensure the style matches: a sleek armchair with a sleek sofa, a rounder shape with a sofa with soft lines.

The seat height should preferably match the sofa. If the seat heights differ too much, the whole feels uneven. A difference of at most 3 cm is not noticeable in practice.

Delivery and lead time

Armchairs are delivered fully assembled to your home. Delivery is available throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). Lead times vary per model and depend on manufacturer stock. In the showroom you receive immediate insight into the current lead time.

Maintaining your armchair

Fabric upholstery: vacuum the armchair regularly with a soft brush attachment. Blot stains immediately with a clean, damp cloth. Do not rub. Rotate and turn the cushions periodically so the filling wears evenly.

Leather upholstery: wipe the leather monthly with a lightly damp cloth. Apply a leather conditioner twice a year to keep the leather supple and prevent drying out. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources near the armchair. Scratches and wear marks become part of the patina.
