European oak: grain and colour

European oak has honey to golden brown tones and a pronounced open grain. No two tops are the same. Over the years oak becomes more beautiful and takes on a deeper, warmer colour.

Stain colours: light, dark or black

Oak tops are stained in the colour you choose and finished with two coats of clear matt lacquer. The stain soaks into the wood, so the grain stays visible.

• Light: including Natural, Corn Silk, Palm Beach, Barley White, Cinnamon and Mud.
• Dark: warm, deep shades for a calmer look.
• Black: the Black stain.

A stain looks different on solid wood than on a screen. Order a sample under colour samples and look at it next to your floor, in daylight and in the evening.

Knots filled to match the stain

Knots are filled with a two-component filler in three colours. Light stains get a light filler, the other, darker colours a dark one, and only the Black stain gets a black filler. That way a knot reads as part of the grain, not as a hole.

Ordering untreated

If you choose Untreated, the top stays bare: no stain, no lacquer. You finish it yourself, with oil for example. Because the filler no longer follows from the stain, you choose light, dark or black in the Knot filling field.

Size and thickness

An oak table top is 40 mm thick and up to 3000 × 1200 mm. Within those limits you set the length and width to the millimetre, and the 3D configurator shows the price straight away.

For a dining table, allow 700 to 750 mm per person and at least 800 mm of free space around it. The standard table height is 760 mm.

Caring for lacquered oak

• Daily: wipe the top with a damp cloth.
• Spills: wipe them up straight away, even though the lacquer protects.
• Heat: put a hot pan on a trivet; heat can damage the lacquer.
• No abrasives or harsh cleaners.

Oak, walnut or ceramic?

Oak is not suitable for outdoor use. For a top outdoors, or one that takes a hot pan, choose ceramic; it is heavy, though, and sensitive to a hard knock on the edge. For dark wood without stain, see the walnut table tops.

Measure the support area, the fixing points and the overhang you want. Unsure about the combination? Send photos and measurements. A new steel or stainless steel base is welded in Maasbree, the Netherlands, to the size of your top.
