Aluminium garden chairs

Aluminium is light and does not rust. You lift a chair with one hand, which helps if you often move from patio to lawn or pull up extra chairs for guests.

The range runs from straight-backed dining chairs such as the Avento and David, via the Stelvio with its adjustable back to the high-backed Foxx. The downside of light: an empty chair is less steady in a strong wind than a heavier one.

Rope: woven cord around an aluminium frame

Rope is a woven synthetic cord wrapped around the frame. It looks warmer and more textile than bare aluminium. The Liv rope and Rivera rope sit a little deeper and lower, so they suit long evenings at the table.

Adjustable garden chairs and a high back

The Foxx high back gives more support to your back and shoulders. The adjustable version has several positions: upright at the table, further back once the meal is over.

Stainless steel garden chair with Batyline

The Marco Polo has a stainless steel frame, a Batyline seat and back, and teak armrests. Batyline is a woven fabric that lets water through, so after a shower you are soon sitting dry again. Stainless steel is heavier than aluminium and feels sturdier for it.

Which chair with which table?

Start with size: allow 700 to 750 mm of table edge per chair. A table for six with three chairs per long side needs 2100 to 2250 mm.

Then colour and material. A dark aluminium frame matches the black or anthracite frame of a steel garden table. The stainless steel Marco Polo echoes the brushed silver of a stainless steel garden table.
