Which garden table can stay outside year-round without worry? The material of both the top and base determines how weather-resistant your table is. Choose ceramic or granite for the top, and steel or stainless steel for the base.
Quick outdoor selection guide
Covered patio: ceramic on steel (with outdoor primer) works well. Open patio, year-round outdoor: ceramic on stainless steel. Bold statement: granite on stainless steel.
Two top materials are suitable for outdoor use: ceramic and granite. Both are frost-proof and UV-resistant. Ceramic is also heat-resistant; use trivets for hot pans on granite. Wood is not suitable for prolonged outdoor use.
Ceramic is 12 mm thick, available in 28 colours and up to 3200x1600 mm. Completely maintenance-free: stains, sunscreen and barbecue sauce wipe off with a damp cloth.
Granite is 30 mm thick, available in 4 varieties and up to 2400x1000 mm. Each slab has a distinctive pattern. Granite requires periodic sealing.
| Property | Ceramic | Granite |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 12 mm | 30 mm |
| Max size | 3200x1600 | 2400x1000 |
| Frost-proof | Yes (EN ISO 10545-12) | Yes |
| UV-resistant | Yes | Yes |
| Maintenance | Damp cloth | Periodic sealing |
| Colours | 27 | 4 varieties |
| Every slab distinctive | No | Yes |
| Weight | Light | Heavy |
Choose ceramic if maintenance-free is the priority. Choose granite if you want a heavy, robust table with a distinctive natural pattern.
Teak is the traditional material for outdoor furniture. The wood is naturally weather-resistant and develops a grey patina. But without regular oiling, teak turns grey within one season.
A ceramic outdoor table requires no maintenance. The surface absorbs nothing: wine, barbecue sauce and sunscreen wipe off with a cloth. With teak, liquids absorb into the wood.
In terms of durability, ceramic wins long-term. Teak can develop cracks after years due to shrinkage and expansion. A ceramic top does not deform and withstands temperature fluctuations.
The advantage of teak: a warm wood appearance. Ceramic does offer marble and stone patterns (e.g. Travertino Romano, Greek White) that suit many patios. See all 28 colours on the ceramic outdoor tables page.
The base largely determines the weather resistance of your outdoor table.
Steel bases for outdoor use receive an additional primer coating. This protective layer is applied beneath the standard powder coating. In the configurator, select application "outdoor" to activate this treatment.
Stainless steel bases in brushed 304-grade stainless steel are naturally corrosion-resistant. The material does not rust, even with prolonged exposure to rain.
| Property | Steel (outdoor primer) | Stainless steel 304 |
|---|---|---|
| Models | 19 | 9 |
| Colours | 10 RAL colours | Brushed silver |
| Corrosion-resistant | Protected (primer + coating) | Yes (inherent) |
| Style | Industrial, modern, rustic | Modern, sleek |
When steel, when stainless steel for outdoor?
Steel: when you want a specific colour and the table is on a covered patio. Stainless steel: when the table stays outside unprotected year-round.
In the 3D configurator you assemble your outdoor table. Choose top material, colour, dimensions, base and application (outdoor). You see the result in 3D instantly.
Available shapes: rectangle, oval, round, Danish oval, half circle and rectangle with radius. Choose the edge finish separately: straight or 60 degrees. A straight edge shows the full thickness, a 60-degree edge makes the top appear slimmer.
Allow at least 60 cm per person along the long side.
Ceramic goes up to 3200x1600 mm, granite up to 2400x1000 mm. Enter exact dimensions in the configurator.
Ceramic top: clean with a damp cloth. Pollen, leaves or bird droppings simply wipe off. No cover needed.
Granite top: clean daily with a damp cloth. Seal periodically. See the care page for instructions.
Steel base (outdoor): the primer coating protects against corrosion. Inspect the frame annually for damage.
Stainless steel base: clean with a damp cloth. Does not corrode, does not need treatment.
Ceramic on stainless steel can stay outside unprotected all year. No cover, no storage. Granite on stainless steel can also stay outside year-round; just seal periodically.
For steel with outdoor primer, annual inspection is sensible. Check that the coating remains intact.
All bases are welded in our workshop in Maasbree, Netherlands. When you select "outdoor" application, steel automatically receives the primer treatment. Get in touch about delivery times.
In the showroom, outdoor tables are on display. You can compare ceramic and granite side by side. Order material samples by post.
Start in the 3D configurator. Get in touch for advice. Delivery throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany).
