Is a steel dining table for you?

Steel is strong in a thin profile. That keeps a table on a steel base looking light, even under a heavy ceramic or granite top. The base comes in a colour, so you can match it to your floor, chairs or window frames.

Quick guide

A base in black, white, grey or bronze: steel. Metal without a paint layer, silver-grey:stainless steel. Table outdoors as well: steel with an outdoor primer or stainless steel, both equally suitable.

Welded and powder-coated in Maasbree

Steel frames are welded in our workshop in Maasbree, the Netherlands. They are then powder-coated in a fine texture: a lightly textured layer, 3 to 5 times thicker than wet paint. That makes the base well able to handle daily use, chair legs and shoes.

The honest downside: powder coating is a paint layer. A heavy impact, such as a hard knock with a metal object, can in theory damage it. If you want a base without a paint layer, choose stainless steel.

10 standard colours

The steel base is available in 10 standard colours. Other colours are not available.

  • White: RAL 9010 pure white, RAL 9001 cream.
  • Grey: RAL 7044 silk grey, RAL 7023 concrete grey, RAL 7016 anthracite grey, RAL 7021 black grey.
  • Black: RAL 9011 graphite black, RAL 9005 jet black.
  • Anodised: Anodic Bronze and Anodic Brown, a warm metallic tone.

Unsure how a colour will look next to your floor or chairs? Order material samples; they are refunded when you return them.

Steel or stainless steel?

Both are welded in Maasbree and equally strong for daily use. Steel gives you colour; grade 304 stainless steel is brushed silver-grey without a paint layer, with fingerprints that show but wipe off easily. Outdoors, steel with an outdoor primer and stainless steel are equally suitable. The choice is about looks.

A steel base outdoors

A steel base can stand outdoors with an outdoor primer: the frame then gets an extra primer layer under the powder coating. Pair it with a top that can go outdoors too, such as ceramic. Oak and walnut are not suitable for outdoor use.

Models

Steel dining tables stand on the Amsterdam, Brussel, Dubai, Dublin, Geneve, Helsinki, Lissabon, Londen, Monaco, Praag, Riga 80x40, Riga 80x80, Sydney and Venetie bases. Not every model fits every shape; the configurator shows which combinations work. Separate bases are under steel table bases.

Which top on steel?

  • Ceramic: heat-, scratch- and stain-resistant, UV-stable, in 29 colours. The choice for heavy use and for outdoors.
  • Oak: 40 mm solid, honey to golden brown with an open grain. Warm against a black or anthracite frame.
  • Walnut: 40 mm solid, deep chocolate brown. Works well on Anodic Bronze or black.
  • Granite: 30 mm natural stone in four types; sealed after delivery and every two to three years.

Choosing the size

A dining table is 760 mm high as standard. Allow 700 to 750 mm of table edge per person and at least 800 mm of free space around it.

  • 1600 mm long: two people per long side, six with the ends.
  • 2200 mm long: three per long side, eight with the ends.
  • 3000 mm long: four per long side, ten with the ends.

Care

A damp cloth is enough. Do not use abrasive cleaners, as they wear the fine texture.
