Oval ceramic dining tables

Why an oval ceramic dining table?

An oval has no corners. Children do not bump into them, there is more room to walk around the table and someone can always join at the ends. A ceramic top adds the surface that needs the least care.

What size oval dining table?

Allow 700 to 750 mm of table edge per person and at least 900 mm of free space around it. Our standard height is 760 mm.

• Four to six people: two or three chairs per long side, perhaps one at an end.
• Eight people: three chairs per long side and one at each end. Think of a length around 2400 mm.
• More people: add 700 to 750 mm of length for each extra chair along the side.

You set the size to the millimetre. Measure doors and stairs as well: a large ceramic top is heavy and goes in as one piece.

Ceramic on an oval: pros and cons

• Heat-, scratch- and stain-resistant: the top is sintered at extremely high temperature and is virtually non-porous.
• UV- and frost-resistant: it does not fade in the sun and absorbs less than 0.1% water, so it can stand outdoors too.
• 29 colours: from concrete look to marble look. On an oval, the pattern runs to the edge without corners.
• 12 mm thick (Fossil 20 mm): 12 mm looks slim, 20 mm gives a heavier edge.

The downside: ceramic is heavy and the edge is sensitive to hard point impact. A heavy pan dropped on the edge can chip it.

A base for an oval top

The oval tables stand on the Geneve, Lissabon, Londen, Monaco and Praag bases in steel, and Riga 80x40 and Riga 80x80 in steel or stainless steel. Every base is welded in our workshop in Maasbree, the Netherlands.

• Steel: powder-coated in a fine texture, in 10 standard colours. A heavy impact can damage the coating.
• Stainless steel: grade 304, brushed and naturally corrosion-resistant. Fingerprints show, but wipe off easily.

Oval ceramic or oval oak?

If you want a table you never need to protect, even on the patio, choose ceramic. If you want warmth and grain that deepens in colour over the years, see oval oak dining tables. Oak is not suitable for outdoor use.

Care

A damp cloth is enough, with a mild cleaning agent for grease. Sealing or oiling is not needed. More on the care page.
