Design your chair

Which fabric should you choose for dining chairs?

Think first about who sits at the table. With children or pets, choose a dark or mottled fabric: small marks and crumbs show less. A light, plain fabric looks calm and fresh, but needs cleaning sooner.

Look at the texture too. A coarser woven fabric feels warm and hides signs of use better; a smooth fabric is easier to wipe but shows a stain sooner.

Quick guide

  • Family table with children: dark or mottled, possibly with the optional stain service.
  • Calm, light dining room: a light fabric, and expect to clean more often.
  • Chair should match your sofa: ask about that sofa's fabric and compare them side by side.

Choose your own fabric or a set colour

Not every chair has a free choice of fabric. With Bento, Flow, Ronda and Slide you choose the fabric and the leg colour yourself. Vince, Xylo and Tulip come in a few set colours, which you select in the product options.

Looking for a matching bar stool? Elly and Flow also come as a bar stool, so you can use the same fabric at the table and at the kitchen island.

Judging colour next to your table top

A colour on screen looks different at home. Compare the fabric with your table top first and then with your floor, in daylight and under lamps. If in doubt, ask whether a sample of that fabric is available.

Consider the top you already have or are choosing. A warm fabric next to an oak dining table calls for different tones than a cool fabric next to a grey ceramic top.

Preventing and removing stains

Act straight away. Dab a stain with a clean, slightly damp cloth and do not rub, or you push it deeper into the fabric. Test any cleaning product on a hidden spot first.

Vacuum the seat now and then with a soft brush so dirt clings less. Otherwise follow the care instructions for the specific fabric; what works for one fabric does not automatically apply to another.

Five years of stain and seating comfort service (optional)

The All-in-House service is an optional, paid service: 5 years of stain and seating comfort service on the fabric upholstery of seating. One package covers 2 dining chairs.

It is not a construction guarantee and it is not included as standard. Separately, every chair comes with a 2-year guarantee on construction and finish.

Would you rather compare shape, armrests or swivel bases? That is covered under dining chairs. A concrete starting point in fabric is the upholstered Gigi, without armrests.

Frequently asked questions

Which fabric is easiest to keep clean?
A dark or mottled fabric: marks and crumbs show less. A smooth fabric is easier to wipe but shows a stain sooner. For extra protection against stains, there is the optional All-in-House service.
Can I get every chair in every fabric?
No. With Bento, Flow, Ronda and Slide you choose the fabric and leg colour yourself. Vince, Xylo and Tulip come in a few set colours. The product options show which choice each chair offers.
Can I see a fabric sample before I order?
If in doubt, ask whether a sample of that fabric is available. Place it next to your table top and floor at home, in daylight and under lamps. A colour on screen always looks different at home.
How do I clean a stain on a fabric chair?
Dab the stain straight away with a clean, slightly damp cloth and do not rub. Test a cleaning product on a hidden spot first. Otherwise follow the care instructions for the specific fabric.
What does the All-in-House service cover?
It is an optional, paid service: 5 years of stain and seating comfort service on fabric upholstery. One package covers 2 dining chairs. It is not a construction guarantee and not included as standard; the chair itself has a 2-year guarantee on construction and finish.
