Which diameter round oak dining table?

Divide the circumference (pi times the diameter) by 700 to 750 mm per person. Rounded down:

  • Ø 1000 mm: 4 people.
  • Ø 1200 mm: 5 people, or 4 with room to spare.
  • Ø 1300 mm: 5 people, 6 at a squeeze.
  • Six people with room to spare needs Ø 1400 mm or more.

The configurator shows which diameters are possible in oak. If you often eat with six or more, an oval oak dining table is often more practical. Keep at least 800 mm of free space around the table; the standard table height is 760 mm.

Quick guide

Does a round oak table fit your room?

Add twice 800 mm of walking space to the diameter. A table of Ø 1200 mm therefore needs a clear floor of 2800 × 2800 mm.

Round oak or round ceramic?

  • Oak: warm, with an open grain, stained or untreated. Indoors only; you sand out a scratch.
  • Ceramic: resistant to heat, scratches and stains, and usable outdoors too. Heavy, though, and sensitive to a hard knock on the edge.

Stain colour on a round oak top

The top is stained in the colour you choose and finished with two coats of clear matt lacquer. Light colours include Natural, Corn Silk, Palm Beach, Cinnamon, Barley White and Mud; there are also darker tones and Black. The pronounced open grain stays visible.

Knots are filled in a colour that suits the stain: light, dark or black. Choose untreated and you finish the top yourself and choose the knot filler yourself.

Judge the colour in daylight next to your floor and cabinets, not on a screen. Material samples are ordered per piece and refunded when you return them.

Honest about oak

  • Oak is moderately hard: it copes with normal family use, but a hard knock can leave a scratch. In solid oak you sand it out and refinish.
  • No two tops are the same.
  • Oak gains a deeper, warmer colour over the years.
  • Oak is not suitable for outdoors. Put hot pans on a trivet.

Base under a round oak top

Check in the configurator where the legs are: at a round table that decides whether everyone can pull up anywhere.

The base is steel or stainless steel; the choice is about looks. Steel is welded in our workshop in Maasbree, the Netherlands, and powder-coated with a fine texture in one of 10 standard colours; a heavy impact can damage the coating. Grade 304 stainless steel is brushed as standard; fingerprints show but are easy to wipe off.
