An oak dining table made to measure has a 40 mm European oak top, up to 3000 × 1200 mm, on a steel or stainless steel base. Oak is honey to golden brown with a pronounced open grain, and deepens and warms in colour over the years. The drawback: the lacquer does not take a hot pan, and oak cannot stand outdoors.

European oak: colour and grain
European oak ranges from honey to golden brown, with a clear open grain. No two tops are alike. Light and use deepen and warm the colour; an oak table gets better with age rather than older.
Finish: stained and lacquered, or untreated
- Stained and lacquered: the top is stained in the colour you choose and finished with two coats of clear matt lacquer. The lacquer protects against stains and moisture.
- Untreated: the top stays bare, with no stain and no lacquer. You finish it yourself, for example with oil.
Knots are filled with a two-component filler in three colours. With light stains (Natural, Corn Silk, Palm Beach, Cinnamon, Barley White, Mud) it is light, with the other darker stains dark, and with Black it is black. On an untreated top you choose the knot filler yourself: light, dark or black.
Choosing a stain? A screen never shows wood quite right. Order material samples; they are refunded when you return them.
Size and shape
The top is 40 mm thick and at most 3000 × 1200 mm. Within that limit you set the size to the millimetre. Allow 700 to 750 mm of table length per person and 800 mm of clearance around it; the standard table height is 760 mm.

Base
Under oak you choose steel or stainless steel. Steel is welded in the workshop in Maasbree, the Netherlands, and powder-coated in one of 10 standard colours. Stainless steel is grade 304, brushed. The choice is aesthetic: black steel contrasts with light oak, brushed stainless steel gives a lighter look.
Drawbacks of oak
- No hot pans: the lacquer has its limits. Use trivets.
- Scratches in the lacquer: sharp objects can damage the lacquer. A solid top can, however, be sanded and refinished.
- Not for outdoors: oak is not suitable for outdoor use. For outdoors choose ceramic or granite.
Oak or walnut
Oak is lighter in colour, with an open grain and a top up to 3000 × 1200 mm. Walnut is deep chocolate brown with purple undertones and the most exclusive wood, up to 2600 × 1200 mm. Knots in walnut are always filled black. Long exposure to direct sunlight can lighten walnut slightly.
Care in brief
Wipe the top with a slightly damp cloth, with a drop of pH-neutral soap if needed, and dry it. Use trivets and no scouring pads. Never leave a wet cloth lying on the top.
