Looking for a dining table that grows with your family? Solid European oak is one of the most popular wood species for dining tables, and for good reason. It is hard, durable and has a warm appearance that suits virtually any interior.
Why oak?
Oak is moderately hard and can scratch under heavy impact; normal household wear will not damage the top. It withstands intensive daily use, is sandable and available in 19 stain colours. With a lacquered surface (2K lacquer) it is also low-maintenance: a damp cloth is enough.
European oak is a dense hardwood with a characteristic open grain structure. That grain gives every table its own character: no two tops are identical. The warm, light tone of oak suits both modern and classic interiors. At 40 mm thick, the top is sturdy enough for intensive family use.
Should a scratch or dent appear after years, solid oak is fully sandable. That is a key difference from veneer or MDF, where damage is permanent.
When configuring your oak dining table, you choose from 19 stain colours. Each colour is applied to the solid oak and then finished with two coats of high-quality matt 2K lacquer. The palette runs from light, natural tones that emphasise the warm oak colour, through mid-tones such as warm brown and grey, to dark variants that give a bolder, industrial effect.
Choosing a colour
Unsure about the colour? Order material samples and judge the wood under your own lighting and interior. Stain colours look different on screen than in real life.
A custom oak dining table is available in five shapes: rectangular, oval, Danish oval, round and half circle. Maximum top size is 3000 x 1200 mm.
Rectangular offers the most seats and fits well in longer rooms. Oval combines generous seating with a soft line. Danish oval has straight long sides with rounded short ends - popular in modern and Scandinavian interiors. Round is ideal for four to six people and promotes equal conversation. Half circle fits against a wall or kitchen island.
Size guide
4 people: minimum 120 x 80 cm. 6 people: minimum 180 x 90 cm. 8 people: minimum 220 x 100 cm. 10+ people: 260 cm or longer. Allow about 60 cm width per person along the long side.
Solid oak consists of continuous wood at 40 mm thick. Veneer is a thin layer of oak (often 0.6 to 3 mm) on a chipboard or MDF core. The practical difference is lifespan. A solid oak top can be sanded and refinished multiple times. After ten or twenty years of intensive use, you sand the top and it looks new again. With veneer that is impossible.
