American walnut: characteristics

American walnut (Juglans nigra) has a naturally rich colour ranging from purple-brown to dark chocolate. The fine, closed grain gives the surface a smooth, refined feel that sets it apart from the more pronounced grain of oak. Each top is distinctive: the colour variation between heartwood and sapwood creates natural contrasts within the slab.

The top is 40 mm thick, finished with clear 2K matte lacquer that protects the wood while letting the natural colour fully show. Over the years, walnut lightens slightly, developing warmer, honey-like tones.

Which base for a walnut dining table?

Steel bases in matte black or Anodic Bronze create a warm-industrial contrast with the dark wood. Stainless steel bases in brushed silver offer a more contemporary, lighter look. In the 3D configurator you switch between base types and colours with a single click.

Maintenance of a walnut dining table

What is the difference between walnut and oak for a dining table?
Walnut (American walnut / black walnut) is naturally dark chocolate brown with a fine, closed grain. Oak is lighter in colour with a coarser, more open grain. Walnut is more dimensionally stable and moves less when humidity changes. Oak is moderately hard; walnut is slightly softer than oak. Oak is available in larger sizes (up to 3000 x 1200 mm versus 2600 x 1200 mm). Walnut is supplied only with a clear lacquer; for oak you can choose from 19 stain colours.
What finish is applied to a walnut dining table?
Walnut dining tables are finished with a clear 2K lacquer (two-component lacquer). This professional finish protects the wood against stains and moisture without altering the natural dark colour. The lacquer is applied in several coats and sanded between layers for a smooth, flat surface.
How large can a made-to-measure walnut dining table be?
