Oak or walnut? Which solid wood suits your interior and lifestyle? This page helps you choose between two proven hardwoods, so you can confidently configure your custom solid wood dining table.

Quick guide: Prefer a warm, light look with colour choice? Choose oak (19 stain colours). Want a dark, luxurious top with a distinctive grain? Choose walnut.

Solid wood dining table: warmth and character at the table

A solid wood dining table is more than furniture: it is the heart of your home. Both wood species in our range are solid: 40 mm thick, fully sandable and re-finishable after years of intensive use. That makes a wood table a long-term investment, unlike veneer or chipboard which cannot be restored when damaged.

Wood fits virtually any interior. From a sleek modern apartment to a rustic kitchen: the right wood species and stain colour align the table with your style. And because every plank has a natural grain pattern, no two tables are identical.

Oak offers the most freedom: with 19 stain colours you can match the tone to your floor, kitchen or chairs. Walnut does not need that flexibility: its natural dark brown colour with subtle purple glow is a statement in itself. View all options in the 3D configurator.

Solid wood vs veneer: why solid is the better choice

At furniture stores you often see tables with a veneer layer on chipboard or MDF. That is cheaper, but has drawbacks you notice after a few years. A scratch in veneer cannot be repaired without replacing the entire layer, and moisture causes chipboard to swell.

Solid wood at 40 mm thick can be sanded and re-finished when damaged. This gives your table an essentially unlimited lifespan. The higher purchase price pays for itself because you do not need a new table after five or ten years.

Finish: 2K lacquer for a low-maintenance top

All wooden tops are finished with a high-quality matt 2K lacquer. This is a two-component lacquer that cures to a wear-resistant, transparent protective layer. The result is a top that handles daily use, stains and moisture.

For oak, the top is first stained in one of 19 available colours, then two coats of matt 2K lacquer are applied. The wood remains visible and touchable, but is protected against coffee, wine and grease stains.

For walnut, only clear 2K lacquer is applied. The rich, dark colour of American walnut shows best without stain. The lacquer protects the wood and enhances the natural depth of the grain.

Shapes and dimensions

Both species are available in five shapes: rectangular, oval, Danish oval, round and Racetrack. Oak tops are available up to 3000 x 1200 mm, walnut up to 2600 x 1200 mm. Start the 3D configurator and experiment with lengths and widths until it fits.

Choosing a base: steel or stainless steel

The base defines much of your table's style. With a wooden top you choose from steel bases in 11 powder-coat colours or stainless steel bases with a brushed finish.

Matt black steel is the most popular pairing with wood: the contrast between warm wood and sleek metal delivers a modern-industrial character. Stainless steel has a timeless, slightly glossy look that suits both classic and modern interiors.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between oak and walnut?
European oak has a light colour with a regular grain and is available in 19 stain colours. American walnut (black walnut) has a natural dark brown colour with purple undertones and a lively grain pattern. Oak is available up to 3000 x 1200 mm, walnut up to 2600 x 1200 mm. Both are 40 mm thick and fully sandable.
How do I maintain a solid wood dining table?
Clean daily with a damp cloth, optionally with a mild cleaning agent. Do not use abrasive or aggressive cleaning products. The 2K lacquer finish protects the wood against stains and moisture without periodic treatment.
Can a wooden table top shrink or expand?
Wood is a natural material that may move minimally with changing temperature and humidity. This falls within normal tolerances and is not a defect. Avoid placing the table directly next to a radiator or in full sun.
What finishes are available?
Oak is first stained in one of 19 colours and then finished with two coats of matt 2K lacquer. Walnut receives only clear 2K lacquer, so the natural dark colour remains fully visible. Both finishes are low-maintenance and wear-resistant.
Is a solid wood dining table suitable for a family with children?
Yes. The 2K lacquer finish is resistant to food and drink stains and daily use. Should the top develop scratches after years of intensive use, it can be sanded and re-lacquered. At 40 mm thick, there is plenty of material for this.
What shapes are available?
Both species are available in five shapes: rectangular, oval, Danish oval, round and Racetrack. Rectangular offers the most seats. Oval and Danish oval give a softer line. Round is ideal for smaller spaces. Racetrack is elongated with two rounded short ends and straight long sides and stands freely in the room.
What is the difference between solid wood and veneer?
Solid wood is the same material throughout, 40 mm thick. Veneer is a thin layer of wood glued onto chipboard or MDF. The difference shows when damaged: solid wood can be sanded and re-finished, veneer cannot. Solid wood lasts much longer as a result.
What is the delivery time?
Delivery time is 1 to 4 weeks after ordering. Every table is produced to measure in our workshop in Maasbree, Netherlands. Delivery is available throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), including placement in your preferred room.
