Stainless steel garden chairs combine a corrosion-resistant frame with a sleek, modern appearance. Stainless steel is the most durable frame material for garden chairs. It does not corrode, does not discolour and retains its brushed finish for years without any maintenance.
The Marco Polo combines three high-quality materials in one chair. The frame is brushed stainless steel, the seat and backrest are Batyline (Serge Ferrari) and the armrests are teak. Each component is chosen for outdoor durability.
Batyline is a woven fabric by Serge Ferrari where polyester fibres are first coated with PVC and then woven. At every intersection the fabric is fused, resulting in a shape-retaining, tear-resistant and stretch-resistant weave. The fabric absorbs no moisture, dries quickly after rain and is UV-resistant. Serge Ferrari offers recycling for Batyline fabrics through the Texyloop programme.
Teak armrests give the chair a warm accent that contrasts with the cool stainless steel. Teak is naturally resistant to moisture and insects. The armrests will develop a silver-grey patina over the years; this is a natural ageing process that does not affect the wood.
Three materials, zero maintenance
Stainless steel frame: does not corrode, damp cloth is sufficient.
Batyline seat: water-permeable, UV-resistant, mould-resistant. Water and soap.
Teak armrests: turn silver-grey naturally. No treatment needed.
Stainless steel contains chromium that forms an invisible protective layer on the surface. This layer self-heals with minor damage. The material withstands rain, sea air, chlorinated water and fluctuating temperatures.
Unlike powder-coated steel or aluminium, stainless steel does not need a coating that can be damaged or worn. The brushed finish is the material itself, not a layer on top. A scratch in stainless steel is less visible than a scratch in a coated surface because the underlying material has the same colour.

Stainless steel is heavier and more robust than aluminium. If you regularly move chairs and need many of them, aluminium is more practical. If you prefer a sturdy material that retains its appearance for years and stays stable in wind, stainless steel is an excellent choice.
In terms of maintenance there is no difference: both materials require nothing more than a damp cloth. The difference lies in weight, appearance and price point.

Stainless steel withstands all weather conditions without exception. Rain, frost, snow, sea air, chlorinated water and temperature fluctuations have no effect on the material. The protective chromium layer continuously self-renews.
The combination with Batyline and teak makes the entire chair suitable for permanent outdoor use. No component needs weather protection. A cover is optional and only serves to keep the chair cleaner during periods of non-use.
Combining with an outdoor table
The brushed stainless steel finish pairs with stainless steel outdoor tables for a fully matched patio. The Marco Polo also combines well with ceramic outdoor tables or granite outdoor tables. The teak armrests allow it to also suit warmer, more natural tables. Configure your custom outdoor table in the 3D configurator.
