Fabric dining chairs: warmth, colour and comfort

A fabric dining chair brings warmth to your dining area. Fabric feels softer and warmer than PU leather, breathes better during extended sitting and is available in a wide colour palette. At Tulmans Furniture, all fabric dining chairs are upholstered with durable furniture fabric that withstands daily use.

The collection includes various models. Each model is available in multiple fabric colours. For a number of models you can choose between a fixed base (Fix) and a swivel base (Swivel). Also view the PU leather dining chairs collection if you prefer a smooth, sleek surface.

Which fabric types are used?

The furniture fabric on our dining chairs is selected on three properties: wear resistance, colour fastness and tactile comfort. These are woven furniture fabrics selected for daily dining-room use.

The texture varies by colour and fabric type. Some fabrics have a smooth, sleek weave. Others have a subtle structure that gives the chair character. In our showroom in Maasbree, Netherlands you can see, feel and compare all fabrics.

Fabric choice per situation

Family with young children: choose a dark or heathered fabric. Small stains are less visible.
Sleek, modern interior: anthracite, grey or black in a smooth weave. Pairs well with a ceramic dining table.
Warm, country interior: cognac, ochre or forest green in a textured fabric. Suits an oak dining table.
Accent in the dining area: a striking colour such as petrol, ochre yellow or rust as a focal point at a neutral table.

Colour choice: how to pick the right colour

Match to the table. With a dark table, lighter chair colours work as contrast. With a light table, you can choose a warmer or darker chair.

Match to the room. In a small dining room, lighter colours feel more spacious. In a large, open kitchen-diner you can confidently choose a bold colour as an accent.

Same colour or mix? The most chosen approach is all chairs in the same colour. But increasingly, customers opt for two colours: for example four chairs in anthracite along the long sides and two chairs in an accent colour at the ends of the table.

View swatches. Colours on a screen always differ from reality. In our showroom in Maasbree, swatches of all available fabrics are on hand. You can take them to the window to assess the colour in daylight.

Maintaining fabric dining chairs

Avoid aggressive cleaning products, bleach or scouring pads. These can damage or discolour the fabric.

Fabric versus PU leather

Unsure between fabric and PU leather? Fabric feels warmer, breathes better and is available in more colours. PU leather is easier to clean and more stain-resistant. In the showroom you can compare both materials side by side and feel what suits you. Also view the PU leather dining chairs.

Popular fabric dining chairs

Gigi and Ginny : compact, light chairs suited for smaller dining tables.

Flow : flowing line that fits both modern and warmer interiors. One of the most versatile models.

Curve: available as Fix and Swivel . Organic, round shapes that envelop the back well. Popular with customers seeking extended comfort.

Bento: available as Swivel . Wide, deep seat with extra filling. The most comfortable chair in the collection for those who want spacious, soft seating.

Combining with your dining table

Fabric dining chairs are versatile in combination. Some suggestions by table type:

  • Ceramic dining table: the sleek, hard appearance of ceramic is softened by fabric chairs. Choose a neutral tint for calm or an accent colour for contrast.
  • Oak dining table: the warmth of wood and fabric reinforce each other. Earth tones (cognac, ochre, brown) create a warm, cohesive dining area.
  • Oval or round table: chairs without armrests fit best.

In the 3D configurator you design your custom dining table. The chairs are chosen separately and can be delivered together with the table.

Frequently asked questions

How hard-wearing is the fabric on the dining chairs?
All fabrics in our collection are selected for suitability for daily dining-room use. Under normal household conditions the fabric keeps its colour and texture for years.
Can I clean the fabric on my dining chair myself?
Yes. Vacuum the chair regularly using an upholstery brush attachment. Blot any spills immediately with a clean, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, a textile cleaner works well, but test it first on a hidden part of the chair. Avoid bleach, scouring pads and harsh chemicals.
How many colours are the fabric chairs available in?
The fabrics come in various colours, from neutral tones such as anthracite and grey to warmer shades like cognac, ochre and teal. The exact range varies per model. Our showroom in Maasbree stocks samples of every available fabric.
Which fabric colour suits a ceramic dining table?
With a clean-lined ceramic dining table, neutral tones such as anthracite, grey or taupe create a calm, cohesive look. If you prefer contrast, pick a warm accent colour like cognac or ochre. In our showroom you can see the combination for yourself.
Fabric or PU leather, which is better for a family with children?
Both materials work well. PU leather is a little easier to wipe down when drinks or food get spilled. Fabric feels warmer to the touch and cleans up nicely with a textile cleaner. If you have young children, a darker or flecked fabric is practical because small marks show up less.
Can I take fabric samples home?
Yes. Our showroom in Maasbree keeps samples of every fabric we offer. You can hold them up to the window to judge the colour in daylight and take them home to compare against your interior. This helps you avoid any surprises between what you see on screen and the real shade.
How do I combine fabric chairs with a wooden dining table?
The warmth of wood and fabric complements each other nicely. For an oak dining table, earthy tones such as cognac, ochre or forest green work well. With a darker walnut table, lighter fabric colours provide a pleasing contrast. Whenever possible, compare the materials together in our showroom for the best result.
